I am here to present to you this WILD creation, made with salty feta, baked to golden perfection and topped with a sweet wild blueberry compote. I know what you’re thinking, “what in the…? Has she gone off the deep end this time?”
I know, it’s a weird combo but when you think about it, sweet and salty has BEEN going together beautifully, for basically forever…chocolate covered pretzels, salted caramel, you name it! Plus, I’m sure you’ve at least seen one menu item in your life that had a salad with blueberries and feta.
You get the picture.
Plus, with the holidays coming our way, I’ve been wanting to make something that can be served as an appetizer for all the family and friend get togethers.
So when the Recipe Redux challenged us to come up with a recipe highlighting amazing, wild blueberries, I knew I wanted to something that can be served as a dip.
Enter: the amazing Baked Feta with a Wild Blueberry Compote.
Oh, and did I mention this recipe only has FOUR ingredients?

I was even snacking on them frozen right out of the bag. What makes them wild? Well, they aren’t planted, rather they occur naturally in barrens and fields in Maine and Eastern Canada that have been here for 10,000 years. Pretty awesome.You’re also probably wondering where on the Earth can you get these amazing little berries?You can find them in the frozen fruit section of your local grocery store, just have to make sure the package says “Wild Blueberries” on it, and you are good to go!Delicious, packed with so much goodness along side salty feta.
Let’s get cooking!
Baked Feta with a Wild Blueberry Compote
- 1 cup frozen Wild Blueberries
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tbsp water
- 1 cup crumbled feta
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
- In a saucepan, combine frozen wild blueberries, sugar and water on medium heat. Stir and simmer until the blueberries start to breakdown, the sugar dissolves and the sauce begins to thicken.
- Add a few drops of the syrup to the feta, place in a oven safe dish and bake for 20-25 minutes until the cheese softens and starts to brown. Remove from oven and top with the blueberry compote.
There you have it! It’s cheesy, salty and sweet from those delicious wild blueberries.Serve with an optional, one more ingredient of chopped basil for a hint of freshness. Serve alongside pita or tortilla chips.
And if you can’t tell, it looks beautiful! Your holiday guests will be totally impressed with this dish, plus will be happy to try something new.
This would also be delicious with some lemon zest, or mint.
